FULL ACCESS TOP UP (FAQ TO STUDENTS)

 

1/ CEF - Is attendance at online classes counted towards fulfilling CEF attendance requirement?

A: No. Only attendance at in-centre classes would be counted.

 

2/ Online class delivery format - Is the class delivery format same as in-centre classes?

A: No. Given the different media of instruction, students should expect different experience as class delivery format needs to be adjusted to ensure that students can still achieve the learning outcomes. Online teachers may use more digital materials (e.g. cue cards) to assist in their class delivery. Besides, the size of online classes is smaller - max 4 students for Encounters and max 8 students for CC & SC classes.

 

3/ English Anytime and Workbook Requirement - do students have to complete the English Anytime and Workbook exercises before they attend Encounters?

A: Yes. Students are encouraged to complete all their English Anytime and Workbook exercises before they attend IN-CENTRE and ONLINE Encounters in order to have more written practices and review new vocabulary, expressions and structures so that students can be better prepared for the Encounters and make faster progress.

For ONLINE Encounters, all students from around the world have to complete 100% of English Anytime exercises and at least 80% of Workbook exercises before attending Encounters otherwise they will not get a “Continue” result from the online teacher and the students will not be able to migrate to the next unit/ level.

 

4/ Class booking - will there be any coach / personal tutor to assist students in booking classes?

A: Students can self-book IN-CENTRE and ONLINE classes on the Learning English App. But for students who have bought this top up online class service, if they would like to reserve more than 2 Encounters, 1 CC or 1 SC (whether they be in centre or online classes), they are welcome to reach out to our centre colleagues to book extra classes for them.

Students should note that if they would like to claim CEF, they will be asked to retake the same unit of Encounter at centre after joining the online Encounter.

 

5/ Class reminders - do students receive WhatsApp class reminders like they do for in-centre classes?

A: No. But class reminders for online classes would be sent to students via the Learning English app before the lesson starts. Therefore, students are encouraged to turn on the notification button to receive class reminder messages.

 

6/ China - can students continue to do English Anytime/ Workbook exercises or attend the online classes when they are in China?

A: We cannot guarantee that there won’t be any changes in the internet accessibility in the Mainland China. Based on our current experience, students can access and do English Anytime and Workbook exercises when they are in the Mainland China (outside of Hong Kong). Online classes are held on Zoom. Students should have no issue to attend the online classes.

 

7/ Fee - how much do students need to pay?

A: $400 for 8 online classes. Students can use the quotas to join Encounter, CC or SC classes but they have to consume the quotas within 60 days of purchase (more accurately, within 60 days of the full access button being turned on). Each student can only buy 8 online classes. We will review feedback in mid April and will announce whether the offer will be extended before end of April.

The quotas will be consumed when they book and attend a class and when they book a class but do not show up. Therefore, students are encouraged to cancel a class 12 hours before the lesson starts if they cannot make it to attend. Only current students studying General English course are eligible for buying this service. This service is NOT available to IELTs, DSE and Business English students.

 

8/ Class offering - how is the online class offering?

A: Around the clock and abundant choices. But students should note that for each type of CC and SC classes, there is only one topic in a week. If they join more than once in a week, the topic is repeated.

 

9/ Logistics – how do students join the online classes?

A: Operation team will turn on full access button for the student within 48 hours from the time of purchase. If the student completes purchase on weekends or on public holidays, they should expect that the service will be available on the next working day.

To join online classes that they have booked, students open the Learn English app to join the zoom class. Just click ‘join’ button shown on the app to attend class.

 

10/ Benefits - what are the benefits to the students?

A:

  1. Flexibility: Students have a lot of class choices outside of centre opening hours. This online option is beneficial to students who have hectic work schedules;
  2. Cultural diversity: The online classes are attended by Wall Street English students from over 30 countries around the world. Students will have chances to meet students and make friends with different cultures and backgrounds;
  3. Learning: Students will have the opportunity to practise, listen and learn from teachers and overseas students with different ascents.
